Monza, Italy (2 August 2026):
Danny Soufi will start this afternoon’s second race of the Prototype Cup Europe weekend at Monza from a richly deserved pole position, thanks to a brilliant final lap from the GMS Team driver at the wheel of the No.11 Ligier JS P325.

The American racer, who took second place in race one yesterday along with team-mate Valentino Catalano, had been bumped off the front row to third with just enough time for one last push lap – and he well and truly delivered to snatch pole by a mere 0.096 seconds.

Theo Micouris sat atop the times for the vast majority of this morning’s 15-minute session in the No.74 Team Virage Ligier, finding improvements every time he circulated the 5.7-kilometre ‘Temple of Speed’, and as the end of the session neared he did seem assured of pole.

With only two minutes to go Micouris’ best of 1m44.054s gave him an advantage of almost four tenths of a second over Soufi, but Zino Fahlke, who had been quick throughout, then leapt from fifth to second on his last lap in his Larea GT1 Racing Duqueine D09.

Soufi, though, wasn’t finished and pumped in a 1m43.918s scorcher to move onto pole. Micouris had crossed the line before the chequered flag fell and so had one final opportunity, and he did improve, but his 1m44.014s lap wasn’t quite enough.

Fahlke will start today’s race from third, he was half a second shy of the front two, and he is joined on the second row by Tobias Bille Clausen in the No.8 BWT Mucke Motorsport Duqueine which is shared with Mattis Pluschkell.  

Nigel Moore, at the wheel of the No.3 Aust Motorsport Ligier shared with Maxim Dirickx, rescued fifth fastest after a problematic early part of the session where times were disallowed. Race one winner Emil Hellberg completes the third row of the grid in his No.48 Allay Racing Ligier.
