Nürburgring: Markus Pommer with fastest time in first practice session

The Racing Experience driver was at the head of the field in the first free practice session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. Gebhardt Motorsport driver Jacob Erlbacher was also fast.

The 2023 season finale of the Prototype Cup Germany is underway. The first free practice session of the race series organised by ADAC and Creventic took place at the Nürburgring on Friday afternoon - and Markus Pommer (32/Untereisesheim, Racing Experience) in the Duqueine D08 set the absolute fastest time with 1:53.268 minutes.

Pommer only set his time in the final seconds of the 45-minute session. "There were light raindrops again and again during the practice session and only at the very end did the track dry. That's when I was able to set the fastest time," said a delighted Pommer, who will start together with Gary Hauser (31/LUX). "The car definitely felt great."

Pommer/Hauser already crowned themselves champions for the 2023 season at the last race weekend in Assen. "We definitely still want to clear the team championship for Racing Experience here," Pommer continued. "As the new driver champions, we want to confirm this performance here once again and also take the race wins."

Second place in the session went to Jacob Erlbacher (23/Böblingen, Gebhardt Motorsport), who is competing alone this weekend. Erlbacher had been leading the 15-car field for long stretches of the practice session, but was beaten by just 0.013 seconds in the end.

"Of course I'm very happy to start the weekend like this," beamed Erlbacher. "Our focus was on trying out a few things with the Duqueine. I know the track very well, of course. My goal for the weekend is to be as far ahead as possible in qualifying and to finish on the podium in both races. That would be great."

Third place went to the Ligier JS P320 of Klaus Abbelen (63/Barweiler) and Felipe Laser (34/Leipzig, both Frikadelli Racing), who are making a guest appearance in the Prototype Cup Germany at the Nürburgring. Laser's fastest lap was 0.448 seconds behind the leaders. Fourth, 0.703 seconds behind, were Gustavo Kyrila (29/BRA) and Nico Göhler (20/Grasleben, both BWT Mücke Motorsport) in another Duqueine. The top five was completed by Nigel Moore (31/GBR, Aust Motorsport), who also started alone in a Ligier.
