Markus Pommer (33/Untereisesheim, Gebhardt Motorsport) could not be defeated in the first qualifying session of the Prototype Cup Germany at the Dekra Lausitzring. The Gebhardt driver secured first place ahead of Torsten Kratz (53/Mönchengladbach, Konrad Motorsport) and Riccardo Leone Cirelli (16/ITA, BWT Mücke Motorsport). In addition to Pommer, there is also a trophy driver and a junior in the top three of the diverse ranking.

"I am happy; “It was a good qualifying, even if not everything went perfectly,” summarized the reigning champion Pommer. To defend his title, he changed both the team and his teammates; he now relies on Gebhardt Motorsport and Valentino Catalano (18/Westheim). Last year he celebrated the title together with Gary Hauser and the Racing Experience team.

Behind Pommer was Trophy driver Kratz, who returned to the Prototype Cup Germany after a year's absence and shares a Ligier with Danny Soufi (20/USA). “We had made a slight change to the set-up before qualifying and didn't know whether it was a good decision. It was just a matter of subtleties, but tenths of a second count here too. In my last lap I was able to improve again and secure second place. I am very satisfied with that." 

Because Kratz finished second, Riccardo Leone Cirelli had to settle for third place. “It was still a good qualifying. We worked hard to get to one of the top positions. This is my first time driving at the Lausitzring and this track is not easy to learn. It is relatively wavy and sometimes there are several lines. The fact that I ended up third instead of second was also due to a mistake I made on the last lap. Without him, second place would have been possible.” Cirelli is a rookie in LMP3 racing, he drives together with the reigning runner-up Julien Apothéloz (23/CHE). Sven Barth (43/Eberbach, Gebhardt Motorsport), who competes in the races together with Maxim Dirickx (20/BEL, Gebhardt Motorsport), and solo starter Antti Rammo (41/EST, MRS GT-Racing) complete the top five.
